Knight's of Columbus Project Hunger: Our Lady's Pantry

Food collection for the poor is held on the third weekend of every month after all Masses. Volunteers stand at the entrances of the church to receive food and donations for this cause. Groceries most needed are cereal, beans, rice, tomato sauce, peanut butter, sugar, paper goods, washing detergent, soap, flour, canned vegetables, coffee, canned fruit, and jars of baby food.

On Mondays following the collection, additional volunteers pack the food received into vehicles and transport it to Our Lady of Guadalupe, Wimauma for distribution to the families of the mission church. The donations assist needy families of the parish in every way possible.

On the fourth weekend of the month, the amount of food collected and the total amount of donations received are posted in the bulletin.

Progressive Prayer Line

“Bear one anothers burdens so you will fulfill the law of Christ” (Galations 6:2). We currently have many households who have volunteered to pray for your intentions when you call us. Anyone may join the prayer chain. Your name will be added to our list and someone will notify you of a request, and you may pray in the privacy of your own home. We ask that you pray the day you are called and as often afterward as the Lord leads you.

Prison Ministry

The Prison Ministry at Prince of Peace is a group of Sun City Center residents who volunteer their time and talent inside and outside of Hillsborough Correctional Institution (HCI). Our purpose is to bring reconciliation, healing and the love of God to the women at HCI and to equip them with skills that will ease their reintegration into society.

HCI in Riverview is a successful, experimental, medium security, Faith-Based/Character-Building facility housing 300 women. It is the only one of its kind in the State of Florida. The women must apply and be accepted.

The Prison Ministry meets at 11:30 am on the 3rd Friday of the month, September through June. All are welcome, men and women. We need people to function on board positions, too. Remember, “Whatever you do for one of the least of these…you do for me” (Mt. 25:41).

Society of St. Vincent de Paul

The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a Catholic organization formed in 1833, in Paris, France, by a group of college students who established the first conference (chapter) to serve the poor and needy of their time. Over the past 175 years, the Society has expanded to 135 countries worldwide, and now has more than 120,000 members in the United States. The Society consists of volunteers who strive to be the face of Christ to the needy and to recognize Him in those they humbly serve. Members are motivated to deepen their religious faith and to follow Christ's urging to help the less fortunate.

The Society recently formed a Conference at Prince of Peace Church, and began its ministry of aiding those in need who are living within the Sun City Center and Wimauma areas. Individuals and families facing emergencies can visit with Conference members who will try to assist with compassion, advice and occasional financial aid. Since the Conference relies on contributions (such as the poor box) to fund its efforts, our resources are limited and we may not be able to assist financially in every case.

The Prince of Peace Conference holds office hours at our Lady of Guadalupe Mission, Tepeyac Hall, on Mondays, from 10 am to Noon. Persons unable to make it to the Mission due to age or incapacities may call Prince of Peace Church, (813) 634-2328, and request that a member of the Conference contact them.
